Here is a listing of the files in this directory and, briefly, what
they contain.

fer_environment.tar.Z

this compressed file contains all of the support files FERRET
	will need to run

fer_executables.tar.Z

this compressed file contains the FERRET executable files

fer_dsets.tar.Z

this compressed file contains demonstration data for
	viewing using FERRET.

patch_DATE.tar.Z

	since that file was created.

Fpatch

this is a shell script to install fer_patch with

README_about_updates

this is an ascii text file explaining how to install the patch,
	and when

ferret_install_guide.ps

this is an installation guide for FERRET in
PostScript format and can be printed on a compatible printer

ferret_install_guide.txt

this is an ascii version of the above file

ferret_users_guide.ps

this is the FERRET user's guide in PostScript format

ferret_users_guide.txt

this is an ascii version of the above file

mc_datasets.tar.Z

a tar file with example "Multiple netCDF" datasets

README_about_mc_datasets

information about the "Multiple netCDF" (known as MC) dataset
	format

Files in compressed tar format (.Z extension) should be got in
binary mode. The others can be got in that mode as well (but is not required).

A sample ftp session to get all the files:

ftp> binary This puts ftp in binary mode
ftp> prompt This toggles off any interactive prompting
ftp> mget * This gets all the files
ftp> bye Exits ftp

After you've got the files, you can print off the installation guide in either
of its forms. Follow it, and please let us know if you have problems.

The Ferret Users Group
----------------------

A Ferret Users Group has been formed so that

   1) we (the developers) can let you know of significant new developments
(occasional messages -- e.g. availability of point-and_click Ferret).

   2) so users can share questions and solutions.

To join simply send an email message to

		Majordomo@ferret.wrc.noaa.gov

and include a message which says simply

		subscribe ferret_users

(Note this must be in the message BODY -- not in the subject line.)

To learn about the users list without joining send this message instead to
the same address:
