Not well prepared black box type models, but tool kit type models.
Covers various geometries as many as possible under the same coding styles
GFD models (SPMODEL, GMS)
Planetary atmospheric models (DCPAM, Arare)
Priority of computer resources is given to readability rather than integration speed, domain size, etc. 

Those might contribute to consider more deeply and widely what is going on in a model.
